Jonathan Sielaff, solo bass clarinet
Zachary Schomburg, voice Toning, electronics Revival Drum Shop 1465 NE Prescott Wednesday, May 16, 8 pm $5 All ages. Performers: Jonathan Sielaff resides in Portland, OR and plays the bass clarinet. Because he likes to play with drummers and electronic instruments, he often amplifies the bass clarinet and processes it with guitar pedals (he is also, conveniently, a guitarist). Although he cut his musical teeth in rock bands, new music ensembles, and free improvisation, he now enjoys exploring territory that exists between genres. His primary musical project is the duo Golden Retriever with Matt Carlson on synth. They have a bunch of tapes and CDs out there and more recently released an album with the salient SF label, Root Strata. This summer they have an album coming out on Thrill Jockey. Zachary Schomburg is the author of The Man Suit (Black Ocean 2007), Scary, No Scary (Black Ocean 2009), Fjords vol. 1 (Black Ocean 2012), and a forthcoming book, The Book of Joshua. He lives in Portland, OR, where he co-does Octopus Books and the Bad Blood Poetry Reading Series. Toning is Cody Brant who makes ambient electronic music. |

Billy Martin (Medeski Martin & Wood) will conduct a workshop on collective grooving and rhythmic phrasing. Working under his direction the audience will work with his newly published percussion game "Stridulations for the Good Luck Feast". Billy will also answer questions and sign his books, DVD and CD's available at the store.
